- Depersonalize yourself from the situation. Rather, recognize that everyone has good intentions and this isn't some sort of battle between good and evil. Recognize that in a sufficiently large organization, there will be issues where interests do not align and have to be resolved in some manner.
- State your intentions. In these tense situations, people will be trying to suss out what you are trying to get out of the conversation. If your intentions are pure then it's worth sharing so that people will focus on the content of your message rather than having to keep guessing at your intentions.
